Two Can Keep a Secret by Karen M. McManus

This is the second novel by Karen M. McManus and it is just as good as her first – One of Us is Lying. I really enjoyed both novels, highly recommend them both!

I can honestly say I devoured this book. I basically read it in two sittings. Sure, it wasn’t a particularly challenging read, but it was gripping and engaging. A high school thriller, a really good whodunit novel. I didn’t guess the killer, didn’t see any of the twists really.

McManus has an easy to read style, which is perfect for these novels. This isn’t a “cosy mystery”; it is a bit gritty, mystery and death are central to this book. There are twists and turns, surprising character changes and revelations. This novel has all the ingredients for an excellent read.

I really liked the two central characters – Ellery and Malcolm. Both were likeable and easy to get alongside and cheer on. Without wanting to spoil the ending, I was pleased that it wasn’t really these two who solved the cases, in fact, a lot of their speculation didn’t lead to much. For me, this just made the book that bit more believable and enjoyable – there was no eye-rolling here!

I loved this book. It was gripping and entertaining, a true “I can’t put this book down” novel. Easy to give this top marks – go check this novel out!
