My Lovely Wife by Samantha Downing

Wow. What a book. What a story. This is quite the debut novel by Samantha Downing.

I loved how this was written. The story is narrated by the husband, and how they became serial killers is written in such a way, it seems like an accidental, fun hobby. I found myself liking them one moment, seriously disliking them the next. It was confusing! I could not wait to find out what was going to happen to these two.

I love a thriller, and this did not disappoint. Twists and turns, suspense, wonder, brilliant twist. How does someone come up with the idea of a married couple who kill for sport? How do you get inside the heads of such a couple? Goodness me, this book was quite the ride.

This novel highlights what we are driven by – mostly success and sex. It shows how our actions have consequences. It shows how we can accidentally damage our kids just be being absorbed by our own lives. It also makes you wonder, how well do I know anyone?

The twist at the end was brilliant. It was gripping, and I read the majority of this book in one day. What is creepy but amazing…we never learn the real name of the husband. Chilling!

I am already recommending this book to people. Such a fab read – do it!
